behind the piece 002: roller blading in the driveway
Creating allows me to connect with my higher self and the inner child that co-exists. When we are children, we understand the most important things in life are to love, to play, to learn, to connect with ourselves and the world around us. To just experience this short window of time we are given on earth, and nothing more.
As we get older, life starts to feel like a chore. Our success is measured by productivity and material wealth. We feel stuck, riding the never-ending conveyor belt, slowly letting go of the dreams we once held so tightly. Slowly losing our identities to the black hole that once seemed so welcoming.
This piece represents my yearning to return to the moments of my childhood when I felt free, before the pressures of growing up felt so suffocating and inescapable. To return to the summer day I spent roller blading in the driveway.
